Our Environmental Policy
Continually improve our environment by exceeding industry standards,
complying with environmental legislation and minimizing pollution.
Our commitment to environmentally responsible practices is applied to every area of our business. Waste diversion is an important part of our effort. We reduce waste by increasing our recycling efforts. Cardboard is a major packaging component which we recycle at all of our facilities and we also offer to pick up cardboard boxes from our customers.
Toner cartridges are a particular problem in landfill sites and we can keep them out of the garbage by recycling them as well. That's why we offer to pick up used toner cartridges from our customers. We're pleased to say that we've collected 220,000 cartridges nationally so far. That's significant when you consider that each one contains over one kilogram of plastic and metal.
We have introduced several programs that help us to reduce our impact on the environment. They include the addition of many eco-friendly products to our huge catalogue of business offerings. You can be confident that in choosing such products, you are purchasing quality items with the same or better features as those that are not as kind to the environment.
We've made a concerted effort to reduce energy in our facilities, taking every opportunity to reduce hydro consumption. And we've introduced our Fifty Green initiative in which our customers help us reduce harmful vehicle emissions by eliminating frequent small cost orders. Our Route Integration plan also helps us deliver orders more efficiently, reducing our carbon footprint by cutting 500,000 kilometers annually.
Staples Advantage operates under an environmental management system and we're proud to have achieved Corporate ISO14001 registration in March 2009.
